This guide describes Converdo extension version 0.3.1. Check your version at
chrome://extensions. If you see an older version, ask your admin for the latest one.
With the Converdo extension you record a Google Meet call in your own browser. Afterwards Converdo automatically transcribes and scores the call, and it appears under Calls for your team. You only need Chrome and a Converdo account.
The extension interface (the bar inside Meet) is in Dutch. This guide quotes the Dutch labels you will see, with an explanation.
Step 1: Install the extension
Install the Converdo extension directly from the Chrome Web Store: click "Add to Chrome" and confirm. You'll find the direct link in Converdo under Get started with the Converdo extension.
Step 2: Pair your account
You pair the extension with your Converdo account once. Open the pairing page or run step 2 on the onboarding page.
- Click Pair Converdo extension.
- If you are in more than one team, pick the right team under Which team does the extension record to? and click Switch to this team.
- The button briefly shows Pairing.... When it succeeds, you see Paired as [your name]. Recordings go to [team].
Your paired devices are listed under Coupled devices. The device you are working on is labelled ✓ This device. On a second computer, use Couple this device. You end a coupling with Revoke.
The extension records to exactly one team at a time. If you pair to another team, your new recordings go there.
Step 3: Grant microphone access once
On your first recording the extension opens a separate tab asking for microphone access. This is normal: Chrome asks for this permission once, on a visible page. Grant it and choose Allow. After that your recording continues automatically and this question does not return.
Step 4: Record
Open your Google Meet call. The Converdo bar appears in the bottom left.
- Tick the confirmation in the bar. (I have informed participants that this call is recorded and analysed by Converdo.)
- Click the Converdo icon in the Chrome toolbar while your Meet tab is active, or press Ctrl+Shift+S. Chrome only allows recording after a real click, so there is no start button in the bar itself. Once you have confirmed, the bar shows: "Toestemming gemeld. Klik op het Converdo-icoon bovenin of druk Ctrl+Shift+S om de opname te starten." (Consent noted. Click the Converdo icon at the top or press Ctrl+Shift+S to start recording.)
- The icon shows GO when you are ready to record, and REC once recording is running.
While recording, the bar shows a timer, the button Markeer moment (mark a moment) and the button Stop. You stop with Stop, with the same icon, or with Ctrl+Shift+S. If you leave the call, the recording stops by itself. The bar then shows Uploaden... (Uploading) and finally Verwerkt (Processed).
GDPR: at the start of the call, state that it is being recorded and analysed. The recording can only start after you confirm in the bar that you have said so.
What happens after you stop
Your recording is uploaded, assembled, transcribed and scored. The call appears under Calls for your team, including the transcript and analysis. Processing takes a few minutes after you stop the recording.
While the recording is running or still processing, the call is already visible in the list with the status Verwerken... (Processing), so an interrupted recording is not lost.
Troubleshooting
Converdo can't hear your microphone. If your microphone delivers no sound, the bar shows: "⚠ Converdo hoort je microfoon niet — controleer je microfooninstelling. De opname loopt door, maar jouw stem ontbreekt nu." (Converdo can't hear your microphone; check your microphone setting. The recording continues, but your voice is missing now.) Check which microphone is active in Meet and in your system. The recording continues, and the warning clears once your microphone delivers sound again.
If your voice isn't being recorded. This is the most common problem, and the cause is nearly always the same: the extension is listening to a different microphone than the one Google Meet is using.
Meet uses the microphone you selected inside Meet. The extension uses the microphone set as the default device in Windows or macOS. If those are different devices, the other party hears you perfectly well, but the extension records silence and you end up with a conversation that has only one speaker.
This happens especially when you have a headset connected but select your laptop's built-in microphone in Meet, or the other way round.
The fix: make sure your system setting and your Meet setting point to the same device.
On Windows, go to Settings → System → Sound and set both the default device and the default communication device to the microphone you selected in Meet. On macOS, do the same under System Settings → Sound → Input.
If you use a headset, this usually works out by itself: when you connect it, it becomes the default device, and you select it in Meet as well.
The recording won't start after your click. If you see "Vink eerst de toestemmingsbevestiging aan in de Converdo-balk. Daarna start je met het Converdo-icoon of Ctrl+Shift+S." (First tick the consent confirmation in the Converdo bar. Then start with the Converdo icon or Ctrl+Shift+S.), tick the box in the bar first. Also check that your Meet tab is active when you click: "Chrome staat de opname alleen toe vanaf je Meet-tabblad. Ga naar je Google Meet-tabblad en klik daar op het Converdo-icoon of druk Ctrl+Shift+S." (Chrome only allows recording from your Meet tab.)
No active call found. For "Geen actief Google Meet-gesprek gevonden. Open je Meet-tabblad en start de opname daar." (No active Google Meet call found. Open your Meet tab and start recording there.), open your Meet tab and start from there.
Your coupling expired. For "Je Converdo-koppeling is verlopen. Koppel de extensie opnieuw via het dashboard." (Your Converdo coupling expired. Pair the extension again via the dashboard.), run step 2 again on the pairing page.
No microphone access. Open chrome://settings/content/microphone, find the Converdo extension and set the microphone to Allow. Then start the recording again.
You are in more than one team. For "Je account is lid van meerdere teams. Kies op de koppelpagina naar welk team de extensie opneemt." (Your account belongs to several teams. On the pairing page, choose which team the extension records to.), go to the pairing page and pick the team.
The extension isn't found when pairing. For "Converdo extension not found. Install the extension and try again." or "Could not reach the Converdo extension. Check on chrome://extensions that it is installed and enabled, then reload this page.", check at chrome://extensions that the extension is installed and enabled, then reload the page.
For your admin: a recorded call is only linked to the right person once that rep is on the team as a member with a rep role. Without that link, the call stays on Awaiting assignment. See How Converdo scores your conversations.
